This file contains the known descendants, to the 6th
generation, of Joshua Cawood, born about 1690, nailmaker of Otley, Yorkshire.
Notes for Erilda Louisa Elizabeth BUCKLEY
This was Olive Schreiner's Erilda, to whose children she was governess, and to
whom she wrote very passionate letters. Family tradition has it (a) that OS
was sacked for making passes at Richard; and (b) that a "Cambridge graduate"
who stayed in an outhouse at the farm, and was known to be writing a novel
about South Africa, died while Olive was there, and she filched his papers,
using them to produce "The Story of an African Farm".
