The Cawood File
This file contains the known descendants, to the 6th
generation, of Joshua Cawood, born about 1690, nailmaker of Otley, Yorkshire.
Notes for James CAWOOD
[2] records "12 children". The Keighley newspaper, in an obituary of William,
in 1877, states that the elder brother, James, died in "February of last
year": i.e.1876.[2] gives it as 17-Feb-1879. Will filed 1866 [72].
CAWOOD, JAMES Trader, hunter. He was born in Yorkshire in 1799 and was with his brothers in Natal, 1832-33. See S. Cawood. James Cawood served on Major Dundas’s commando of 1828 that was intended to prevent a Zulu attack on the frontier tribes.
